-Description

Patek Philippe is a watch brand founded in Geneva in 1839. The company uses its unparalleled quality and technical expertise to make watches without any compromise.

The independence of the family business and the reliability that all watches can be repaired create a value as an asset that can be passed on from generation to generation.

In addition to the fact that it continues to be the world's premier manufacture, the brand is also synonymous with luxury watches due to the extremely small number of watches produced.

This watch is the Calatrava reference 3445, the pinnacle of classic dress watches and the brand's most iconic timepiece.

The Calatrava collection has its roots in the reference 96, launched in 1932, and the name 'Calatrava' comes from the brand's emblem, the Calatrava Cross (Croix de Calatrava). The cross originated from the coat of arms of the Spanish knights of the 12th century.

Reference 3445 was introduced in 1961 and was in production for about 20 years. It was the first Calatrava watch with a date display, a water-resistant screw back and automatic winding, which are different elements from the 96 series.

The case is made of 18k white gold. It is 35 mm in size, a large size for this period and one that can be used today without any discomfort.

The straight lug design was introduced with the reference 3520 and this 3445. The design has been carried over to modern models.

Although we do not polish it, the finish remains strong and the edges of each part are in good condition. It's hard to believe that this is a gold watch that is over 50 years old.

The dial is a blue dial with sunray finish. It is a slightly darker blue colour that looks navy depending on the angle you look at it.

If you look at it under magnification with a loupe, you can see slight peeling of the paint near the indexes and on the pearl dots around the periphery, but it can be said that this is a change that appears because it is an original dial.

In addition, there are σ (sigma) marks on both sides of the SWISS at the 6 o'clock position on the dial.

This is a notation that can be seen on watches from early 1970s to around 2000 made by manufacturers that belonged to an organization called APRIOR, and indicates that precious metals such as gold are used for the dial and indexes.

It was put there to "indicate that the watch is of high quality Swiss made of gold." It was produced for a limited period and not all watches during that time had it, so collectors consider the sigma dial to be a rarity.

The movement is automatic Cal.27-460M. By using ball bearings to hold the rotor core and improving the balance part, this movement has improved accuracy and practicality from the previous generation Cal.12-600AT, and is also thinner.

The rotor part is made of 18K gold and has a beautiful striped finish and engraved Calatrava mark.

We obtained an extract from the archive in September 2023. A genuine pin buckle made of 18k white gold is also included.
