-Description

Datejust is the Rolex's most famous automatic watch, was born in 1945.It is widely known as a watch that anyone can recognize at a glance from its distinctive appearance.

The Datejust mechanism, which instantly changes the date at midnight, is regarded as one of Rolex's three greatest inventions, together with the Oyster case and the automatic Perpetual mechanism, and the Datejust collection is the culmination of all these features.

Reference 1601 is a vintage model manufactured from the 1960s to the late 1970s. It looks a little similar to the same Datejust reference 1603, but the 1601 has a solid gold fluted bezel, 1603 is different in that the bezel is a stainless steel engine turned bezel.

The fluted bezel has a good amount of sparkle. It is made of white gold, which has changed colour with age, accentuating its vintage character. The case is in good condition with minor scratches from use, but it has not been polished too much.

The dial is a matt black dial. This is one of the rarest dials, known as the 'confetti' dial, which was only produced for a few years. Under magnification, red, yellow and green paint particles can be seen in addition to the black ground colour.

In Japan, it is called "red eye" dial which name might comes from the red paint sparkles. Although it is not as easily recognizable as a glossy dial called a mirror or gilt dial, it is no less rare in terms of rarity.

The hands and indexes are a combination of standard bar hands and bar indexes. The luminous paint on the dial is the original tritium, and the luminous paint on the hands has been repainted in the past.

The movement is automatic Cal.1570. This is an early model machine without the hack function.
This machine has high accuracy and durability that passes chronometer standards, and is easy to maintain, so you can use it with confidence.

The bracelet comes with a folded Oyster Jubilee bracelet 6251H from the same era as the watch. The bracelet shows some droop.

It is not as obvious a feature as the gilt dial and is a good choice for those considering a slightly different vintage Datejust.
