-Description

Datejust, Rolex's most famous self-winding watch, was launched in 1945.Reference 16233 is a vintage model introduced around 1988 and produced until 2005.

Because of its 5-digit reference number, it is sometimes called a 5-digit model or introduced as a neo-vintage. This watch was made around 1991.

There are two differences to the previous generation ref.16013. The crystal was changed from acrylic to sapphire glass and the movement was updated from Cal.3035 to Cal.3135.

These updates have greatly improved the robustness, accuracy and maintainability of the 16233, and it can be used on a daily basis just like the modern watches.

The dial is a very rare type of dial called a Stellar Boiler Gauge with navy/deep blue color.

The name "Boiler Gauge" derives from its resemblance to the design of a pressure gauge. Breguet numerals with Arabic indexes is a combination rarely seen in Rolex watches.

Combined with the inner railway minute circle, it gives the watch a very distinctive look.

The boiler gauge design is used primarily on the Datejust and rarely on the Oyster Perpetual. Most of boiler gauge dials are white or cream, making the navy variation even rarer.

The Stella dial was a Day-Date dial that existed for a few years starting in the early 1970s and is said to have been produced for the Middle East. It features a glossy enamel finish.

The name "Stella" is also used for watches with dials that have similar characteristics, such as the Datejust and Oyster Perpetual, which are also rarely seen.

The navy stella boiler gauge of this watch looks glossy black in the photo. In most cases when the watch is actually worn, it looks black, but when the light hits it and you look closely at it from different angles, you can see that it is navy in color.

The movement is the self winding Cal.3135, which is still considered to be one of the best movements in the watch industry almost 30 years after its introduction.

The balance bridge, which was a single bridge in the Cal.3035, has been improved to a twin bridge, which means that with regular maintenance, the accuracy and functionality of the watch can be maintained indefinitely.

It can be said that Rolex movements have reached perfection with this Cal. 3135, which is also very easy to maintain.

During the service, the internal parts (winding bridge) replacement with genuine parts, mainspring replacement, and glass replacement were done, and the repair cost is several times higher than usual.

Most Datejust watches with boiler gauge dial are from the previous generation, Ref.16013 and 16014, and rarely seen in 16233 and 16234.

In the Japanese market, except for those previously sold in our store, no other stores have sold them at all for these years.

There is a small history of sales on the international market, but only in white or cream, and this navy boiler gauge can be said as Holy Grail.
